Thomas Rhett is sharing an update on his health.

“I’m kind of going deaf in [one] ear a little bit,” Rhett, 35, said during the Monday, February 9, episode of Annie F. Downs’ “That Sounds Fun” podcast.

“And so I had to go get hearing aids as a 35-year-old man. And I wore them for like a week,” the “Die a Happy Man” singer continued.

Rhett said that as his hearing improved with the aids, he realized how chaotic his home with wife Lauren Akins sounded.

“I looked at her, I was like, ‘Is this legit what you hear all day long?’ I can’t think straight. It’s so loud,” he continued. “I’m sitting there just messing with the functions of my phone. I’m like, noise cancel, noise cancel. And it’s like, when I take [the hearing aids] out, I’m like, ‘OK, this is normal again.’ But I’m just like, I just stand there, and I’m like, this is insanity.”

Rhett and Akins, 36, share four daughters, Willa Gray, 10, Ada James, 8, Lennon Love, 5, and Lillie Carolina, 4.

The couple announced in August 2025 that they’re expecting their fifth baby together. In a video shared via Instagram at the time, Akins stood beside Rhett as he sang his 2017 hit “Life Changes” about fatherhood.

“Well, I was wrapping my head around being a dad. Big wrench got thrown in the plans that we thought we had. Now Lauren’s showing — got one on the way. That’s —” Rhett sang before briefly pausing his guitar strumming as Akins held out five fingers. “Five under 10. Hey, what can I say? Yeah life changes. You wake up ain’t nothing the same. Yeah life changes.”

Akins then held up a sonogram image.

“Here we go again! We’ve got some really excited big sisters in our house. God is so good,” the couple captioned the post.

Though Rhett and Akins have not officially shared the sex of baby No. 5, they have teased the idea of having a boy.

“You know, I just thought it’d be really memorable to take our son hunting for the first time, and just — I’m assuming it’s a boy,” Akins said in a January TikTok video showing off her camouflage hunting gear. “That was the baby reveal. That was the gender reveal right there. I’m kidding. I don’t know. It’s giving lots of boy energy after smoking that bird out of the sky. It was. It was like snowing feathers.”

Rhett and Akins, who tied the knot in 2012, first became parents when they adopted Willa from Uganda in 2017.

“I called Thomas one of the first nights I met her in Uganda and told him about her,” Akins exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping in 2019. “Without hesitation, he said, ‘Bring her home. She is ours. We are going to make this happen.’”

Rhett shared in his 2024 Us cover story that he and Akins were “really happy” with four kids.

“Lillie’s starting school, so we’ve been like giddy little kids saying, ‘What are we going to do with eight hours a day, three days a week?’” he said at the time. “But it wouldn’t be shocking if a fifth [came along] in the next three or four years.”
