Heather Rae and Tarek El Moussa are “in negotiation” about having another baby, and the conversation has been going on for a while.
Tarek, 43, revealed in an exclusive interview with Luxury Handbag Shopping that he and Heather, 37, have been debating having another child since before they started couples therapy last year.
“What’s most important to me is being a good dad, and being a good dad is showing up to everything, being there, being supportive, going to all the things,” he told Us ahead of the season 4 premiere of Flipping 101 With Tarek El Moussa. “And at some point you start running out of time. I’m filming shows, I’m running businesses. I have three kids, so I don’t know if I have the capacity to take on more right now. And that’s my only concern.”
Tarek and Heather share a son Tristan, 2. Heather is also stepmom to Tarek’s two older kids, daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Christina Haack.
“We’ve been doing the couples therapy for a while and that was even before even having the conversation about the baby,” Tarek said.
He added that the couple, who married in 2021, didn’t start going to therapy because of any problems — it’s a preventative measure inspired by their friends.
“The reason we actually started the couples therapy is because friends of ours have been going for 30 years, and they said it’s the best thing they ever did for the relationship,” he continued. “So what we started doing is going to couples therapy, not to fix something that’s broken, but to prevent something from breaking.”
Heather first revealed that the couple was debating having another baby on the March 27 episode of the “Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad” podcast.
“I never wanted to leave [my son]. I want to be with him all the time. I still do,” she said. “He is, like, the light of my life. It makes me so happy. I’m like, ‘How could I not want more?’ But my husband is very much done.”
She added that it is “hard” to disagree with her husband on such a major decision.
“We are in therapy, talking through things, and it’s just something that we never went to therapy together, which I wish we would have started it sooner because I think it’s such an amazing thing and it helps communication,” she said.
