A fresh start. Selma Blair alluded to her recent plane incident while celebrating her 44th birthday on Thursday, June 23. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story actress posted a cute photo via Instagram of herself and her son, Arthur, eating cupcakes.
“‘And so what should I wish?’ And he whispered it in my ear right then. I ask my angel for it to be true every day. And to do the same for others,” she captioned the sweet pic. “Thank you @wildersatheart for loving us this birthday. Your patience. Your support. We [love] you. And a sincere thank you to all those who sent me the spirit of loving and forgiveness. It is a new birth year. Thank you.”
Blair had a couple rough days leading up to her birthday. As previously reported, she was taken off of a Delta flight on a stretcher at LAX on Monday, June 20, for erratic behavior. She later released a statement about the incident to Vanity Fair.
“I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret,” the actress shared on June 21. “My son was with his dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath. I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”
Blair was flying back to L.A. from a Cancun, Mexico, getaway at the time. She and her ex, Jason Bleick, and their son, Arthur, 4, went away for Father’s Day.
Despite the incident, Blair appears to be in good spirits. She even got a birthday shout-out from her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar on Thursday. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress, 39, posted a photo of the two from the 2000 MTV Movie Awards, where they won for Cruel Intentions in the Best Kiss category.
“Smooches on your #birthday,” Gellar captioned the Instagram post. “To my friend @therealselmablair, who may be an award winning kisser, but should be an award winning friend and mother!! (And style icon).”
