Sam Asghari is sharing his support for Britney Spears weeks after she was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

“Absolutely I’m rooting for her. I think she’s a strong person,” Asghari, 32, exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping on Sunday, March 15, at Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation Oscars Party. “She’s one of the strongest women I’ve known in my life, and I’m always going to have a sensitive side of me for her because I’ve known her for seven years.”

He added, “I know that she is a strong woman and she can pull through. As long as we as people that are standing on the outside now and the press give her the privacy she deserves.”

In the meantime, Asghari was looking forward to “getting inspired” by John’s annual event, telling Us, “It’s the biggest night in Hollywood, and to me, cinema means the world, and I’m here to celebrate that.”

Asghari and Spears, 44, started dating after meeting on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. They walked down the aisle in June 2022 but split one year later, finalizing their divorce in May 2024.

Spears was arrested on March 4 near her home in Ventura County, California, and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence after she was seen “driving erratically at a high rate of speed,” according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities released the “Toxic” singer from jail the following morning, but the incident is still under investigation as officials await the results of a blood test that Spears took at a nearby hospital while in custody.

After Spears’ arrest, a spokesperson for the Grammy winner called the incident “completely inexcusable” in a statement to Us.

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the rep said. “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”

Earlier this month, Asghari reiterated that he has nothing but respect for his ex-wife.

“I admire her very well. I’ve seen what she struggles with. Even though we were married for one year, we were together for seven years, so my values for her, my respect for her, always stands,” he said during a Wednesday, March 11, interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored. “I’m a strong believer that she needs her privacy, and everybody makes mistakes. If she made a mistake, I really think she’s a strong woman and she could come back from this.”
