Riley Green barely skipped a beat after he was hit in the head with a fan’s phone mid-show, but he still needed stitches before his next gig.
“5 stitches later … sewed up,” Green, 37, wrote via his Instagram Story on Sunday, March 15, sharing a close up of his right ear with tiny stitches near the lobe.
The country singer then poked fun at his recent performance mishap by sharing a photo of a phone tether that clips to one’s belt loop. “Passin’ these out at the door tonight,” Green joked.
Green’s health update came after he was struck by a phone mid-performance on Saturday, March 14, at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

According to a video of the incident circulating on social media, Green was singing when the phone came flying from the floor seats, hitting him on the right side of his face, specifically injuring his ear.
The “Worst Way” singer stopped the show and quickly took off his guitar. Green moved to the front of the stage and pointed to the person who appeared to be responsible for the attack.
“Can we get the house lights on real quick?” Green asked as the rest of the crowd booed the alleged assailant.
Once Green identified the perpetrator, he said, “Get your a** out of here. Go on,” which prompted the audience to cheer in support. (Billboard reported that the person responsible for throwing the phone was escorted out of the venue.)
As Green returned to his microphone stand blood could be seen streaming down his neck from his ear. His team then came on stage to wipe it off, which is when Green realized that he was injured.
“Am I bleeding?” a surprised Green asked before turning his attention back to the crowd. “Y’all see how tough I am?” he joked as a big grin came across his face.
After the show, Green shared a series of photos from the night via Instagram and once again made light of the incident.
“Ole buddy bout ran outta anytime minutes last night … but a hell of a time was had,” he wrote, poking fun at the fan’s action via his hashtags. “#weouthere #austrailia #melbourne #justtextmenexttime #cashmeoutsidehowboutdat.”
Among the photos was a snapshot of Green being treated for the wound backstage by a medic. There are also multiple pictures of the “Outlaws Like Us” singer’s right side with blood visible on his neck and shirt.
Green shared similar photos via his Instagram Story on Saturday, including a close up of the blood running down his face. Merle Haggard’s “The Fightin’ Side of Me,” played alongside the bloody pic.
Despite sustaining an injury at his recent show, Green showed his excitement for his next performance via his Instagram Story on Monday, March 16.
The musician — who will play former Navy SEAL Garrett on Marshals this season — shared a poster of his Sydney, Australia tour date, revealing it is now sold out.
“Thank you, Sydney,” he wrote, tagging the venue for the show which will take place Monday evening.
