Prince William shared his excitement for an upcoming trip to Brazil — his first-ever visit to the country.
Taking to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official X account on Sunday, November 2, William, 43, detailed this week’s travel plans, which will see him promote his Earthshot Prize initiative and attend a United Nations Climate Summit while touring Brazil.
“As I depart for Rio de Janeiro, I am excited for my first visit and to experience Brazil’s vibrant culture, its extraordinary biodiversity, and above all, the warmth of its people,” he wrote.
Adding an idyllic overview shot of Rio de Janeiro and its coastline proximity, William also discussed his excitement for the events he will take part in. “With the world’s eyes turning to Brazil this week, there is no better place to celebrate bold climate leadership. Hosting The Earthshot Prize allows us to not only recognise those driving change, but to be inspired by them,” he said. “When we work together with optimism and courage, a more sustainable future is within our reach. W.”
The Earthshot Prize is an environmental award launched by the Prince of Wales in 2020 that provides significant monetary grants to category winners with admirable environmental goals.
The positive message comes after a headline-grabbing week for the British royal family, as William’s uncle Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was stripped of his titles as prince and the Duke of York, per a Buckingham Palace announcement on October 30.
Luxury Handbag Shopping reported at the time that William had supported his father, King Charles III, in making the decision, which also included Andrew, 65, being evicted from Royal Lodge, in light of the former prince’s alleged involvement in a sexual assault scandal.
The palace’s statement said a “formal notice” had been served to Andrew to ensure he would “surrender the lease and … move to alternative private accommodation.”
The statement continued, “These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he [Andrew] continues to deny the allegations against him.”
Multiple royal experts have suggested that William’s support of the king, 76, is in part due to his wife, Princess Kate Middleton, serving as a source of ongoing issues between William and Andrew.
In the period leading up to the king’s announcement, author Christopher Anderson, who wrote The King: The Life of Charles III, told Us that Andrew “was never welcoming toward Kate” when she joined the royal family.
Despite their differences with Andrew, William and Middleton, 43, have temporarily relocated their family closer to the embattled former prince ahead of his departure from Royal Lodge. According to a Saturday, November 1, report by The Telegraph, the couple moved into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park earlier this year.
The report detailed that the couple and their children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — were scheduled to move from Adelaide Cottage closer to Christmas, but early construction got them into their new home earlier than predicted.
