Prince William is an unabashed Aston Villa fan, but you won’t see him engaging in any hooligan behavior in the stands — especially when Prince George is with him.

The Prince of Wales, 42, took in his soccer team’s match against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, April 9, with his 11-year-old son. Beforehand, he spoke with TNT Sports about his plans that evening.

“Well, I’ve got my son here as well, so I’m on best behavior,” he joked.

It was the first time Aston Villa reached the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals in 43 years, and he said he was focused on making memories with George rather than any exuberant celebrations.

“But I thought, it’s been 43 years since anything like this has happened in my generation as a Villa fan, and I want George to experience a night out away from home in a big European competition,” he said. “I hope it’s not 43 years until the next time it happens, but I think those memories are really important to create and to bring him along tonight is a big deal for me.”

Though Aston Villa lost, 3-1, father and son both seemed to enjoy the match. They were both seen at Parc des Places Stadium celebrating their side’s lone goal, courtesy of midfielder Morgan Rogers. In one photo, William had his arms wrapped around George in a moment of joy.

In addition to George, William shares Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, with Princess Kate Middleton. Charlotte and Louis didn’t accompany their dad to the game, but he was confident they were following along.

“I’ve left the other two at home,” he added. “They’re probably watching tonight.”

Of the three kids, George appears to be the biggest soccer fan. George’s uncle Mike Tindall revealed in October 2024 that his nephew is just as avid an Aston Villa supporter as his dad.

“George loves his football. I’ve played numerous times in the garden with him,” Tindall, 46, told The Telegraph. “He’s passionate about Aston Villa, too. Wherever he is, he’ll sit down and watch that game.”

George and his siblings may not have had much of a choice but to follow their dad’s favorite team. As William explained to The Sun in March, he is a superstitious sports fan and his kids are all part of his good luck ritual.

“If I’m home alone with the children, I probably don’t have the pre-match pint, but I do have a bit of superstition about where I sit when I’m watching them,” he said. “If we’re not doing very well, I start moving ‘round the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that’s going to change our luck.”
