Prince Louis is celebrating his 8th birthday on the water.
“Happy birthday, Louis!” the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account captioned a photo of the young royal on Thursday, April 23. “8 today!”
Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton’s youngest son was all smiles as he stood with his arms crossed with a body of water surging behind him. Louis wore a dark blue knit half-zip in the image.
Royal watchers couldn’t help but comment on how much Louis looked like his older brother, Prince George. (Along with Louis and George, 12, William and Kate are also the parents of daughter Princess Charlotte, 10.)
King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Instagram account shared the photo with a birthday message of their own.
“Happy Birthday to Prince Louis!” they added.
William and Kate’s Instagram account also posted a video of Louis at the beach for his big day. The short clip featured the youngster wearing a wetsuit after taking a dive in the water. He could also be seen playing cricket on the beach and running around in the sand.
“Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Prince Louis,” the video’s caption read. “8 is great!”
William, 43, referred to his youngest son as “a character” during a September 2025 outing.
“He’s a very good boy,” the Prince of Wales added while visiting the National Federation of Women’s Institute (WI) at the time. William also said Louis loves to “wind his brother and sister up” at home.
The late Princess Diana’s astrologer, Debbie Frank, referred to Louis as a “wild child” while speaking with Hello! Magazine in April 2024.
“Prince Louis, like his sister Princess Charlotte and his great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is a Sun sign Taurus. Yet Louis is born to be his own person,” Frank said at the time. “His birth chart doesn’t share the astrological blueprint usually associated with the steadfast, sensible sign of Taurus.”
She added, “He is likely to shake things up, add some mischief and disruption into the mix.”
Frank noted that Louis will have a “rather different life purpose than his siblings,” based on his place in the birth order.
“Which is just as well, as he wants to do things his way,” she said. “And he has a willful streak.”
Louis has gone viral on several occasions over the years for his antics, which have been caught on camera at royal family events.
Frank called Louis a “breath of fresh air” who “provides some light relief from the stiff and staid royal line-up.” She added, “He is a crowd pleaser even though he breaks the royal mold.”
