Thousands of fans of SaveAFox Rescue YouTuber Mikayla Raines are on a mission to take down a Reddit snark page after her husband claimed she died by suicide amid online bullying.
“The founder of the Fox Sanctuary SaveAFox has recently committed suicide, due in large part to horrendous cyberbullying by the subreddit SaveAFoxSnark and many other wildlife subs,” the Change.org petition read. “This tragedy could have been prevented so easily. In the year of 2025 we should know by now how devastating and cruel cyberbullying is. It’s even a crime in many civilized countries.”
The message continued, “And SaveAFoxSnark is not the only Snark Subreddit. There are many like it who will brainlessly rant and rave and say horrific things about people and groups they have NO understanding of. Snark subreddits about REAL people should not be allowed period, because words have meaning. Words have impact.”
The petition, which has more than 16,000 signatures, aims to “show these monsters that impact.”
“Just like their voices silenced someone who just wanted to do right in the world, let’s let them hear ours,” the message read. “We need to tell Reddit and any other social media platform that this is NOT OK. Sign this petition so we can tell the world that bullying is wrong, even in cyberspace. Do it for Mikayla, and for everyone who feels alone and weak. Let us be their strength!”
Reddit responded to the petition in a statement, telling Luxury Handbag Shopping: “Reddit condemns hate, harassment and bullying and explicitly prohibits this behavior in our sitewide rules. Our dedicated internal safety teams regularly ban snark communities that violate our rules. In this instance, r/SaveaFoxSnark was not an active subreddit prior to going private — meaning it had very few posts and only 28 members as of June 2025.”
On Monday, June 23, Raines’ husband, Ethan Frankamp, broke the news that she died. In a video shared via the SaveAFox Rescue’s channel, Frankamp alleged that Raines had been dealing with “ridiculous claims and rumors” being spread about her online for a “few years,” including from rival animal sanctuaries.
“And being the sensitive human that she was, Mikayla took it all to heart,” Frankamp said, alleging that Raines “ended her life” a couple days prior amid “rude words, accusations and name-calling” shared by people whom “she considered close friends.”
Frankamp shared that his wife — with whom he shared daughter Freya — suffered from depression, borderline personality disorder and autism. He noted that the recent criticism made her feel “as if the entire world had turned against her.”
“She couldn’t bear what she was feeling any longer and she ended her life,” Frankamp said. “It breaks my heart that someone who is selfless and devoted her life to animals could have so much negativity pointed at her.”
