Miranda McWhorter and Chase McWhorter’s marriage ended after their involvement in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast’s viral “soft-swinging” scandal.

“It all started during COVID. … [It was] a bunch of our friends coming — couples — and then we’d all get trashed on alcohol and then, like, these games would come up,” Chase exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping in September 2024. “[We’d play] spin the bottle or whatever. It was never predetermined that we were going to be doing, like, swinging.”

Chase, who shares two children with Miranda, further revealed that several MomTok stars and their spouses would attend parties at a rented cabin in Utah.

“I do think these marriages were struggling, most of them,” he speculated. “This is all people that have just grown up Mormon and really, in a lot of ways, not ever dabbled in some of the stuff that you’d probably just get through and experience in college or high school. But I don’t really ever think anyone thought, ‘We’re gonna eventually, like, switch and then have sex with that person.”

The swinging parties ended in 2021 once MomTok creator Taylor Frankie Paul revealed that she had sex outside of her marriage to Tate Paul with one of the other attendees. Taylor and Tate, who share two kids, soon divorced. (Taylor later welcomed son Ever with then-partner Dakota Mortensen in 2024.)

How Do Chase and Miranda McWhorter Know Taylor Frankie Paul?

Taylor Frankie Paul launched MomTok in 2020 as a way for other young Mormon moms to break from long-held stereotypes about their faith. Taylor and Miranda McWhorter were founding members of the social media group, starring in many joint social media videos.

What Happened at the ‘Soft-Swinging’ Parties?

Taylor Frankie Paul and then-husband Tate Paul would invite various couples from their friend group to intimate gatherings.

“We were already all hanging out, so on and so forth or one of the guys would dare me and Taylor to kiss,” Miranda McWhorter claimed on “The Viall Files” podcast in May 2025. “I guess [that] is what would lead to other things.”

Miranda further claimed that she and Chase didn’t have “strict boundaries” about how far to go at the parties.

“It wasn’t, like, ‘We want to be swingers.’ It was just circumstances we got ourselves into, and then things would happen,” she said. “There were really only two times where [Chase and I] ever kissed anyone. … It’s all kind of drunken blur.”

Most parties ended without any of the couples having sex with someone else.

Other than Taylor and Miranda, Demi and Bret Engemann were the only Mormon Wives couple to attend a party.

“They were just hanging out,” Chase told Us in 2024, denying that they ever participated in swinging activities.

Chase further claimed that Whitney Leavitt, Jessi Draper, Mayci Neeley, Jen Affleck and Layla Taylor never attended one of the swinging parties.

Where Do Chase and Miranda McWhorter Stand Now?

Chase and Miranda McWhorter separated amid the fallout from Taylor Frankie Paul revealing the existence of the “soft-swinging” scandal.

“I think we both realized that we’d gotten married a little prematurely, and that’s why our relationship still is pretty, good [now], like, we’re really cordial, really friendly,” Chase told Us in 2024. “[I] still chat with her a lot, whenever she drops the kids off, and vice versa. … I think it’s working out really well, and we’re kind of figuring out how to continue navigating that in a positive way.”

Where Do Miranda McWhorter and Taylor Frankie Paul Stand Now?

Miranda McWhorter’s friendship with Taylor Frankie Paul fractured after the swinging scandal came to light.

“We found out that she had not only had an affair, but she had been having an affair for about a month and a half, and that this was not a one time offense,” Chase told Us in 2024. “It was more [of an] emotional affair. [It was] like a nuclear bomb [got] dropped. That immediately meant, basically, two divorces.”

Chase and Miranda distanced themselves from Taylor as a result, only mending fences years later on Mormon Wives.

Miranda McWhorter Joined ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ in Season 2

While Miranda McWhorter was invited to film 2024’s season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, she opted against letting cameras into her life right away.

“I wasn’t quite going through a divorce at the time of the decision-making process, but had I decided to, my divorce would’ve been on [the show],” Miranda told Us in May 2025. “I think that would’ve been very difficult. Reality TV isn’t always great for relationships.”

She continued, “As time went on and then after my divorce and becoming a single mom, I think it started to make more sense. I think I also had done a lot of work on where I was at with my past, with the whole swinging thing [and] things in my marriage. I had come to terms with a lot of things, and I think I grew a lot as a person.”

Inside Chase and Miranda McWhorter’s Post-Divorce Dating History

Miranda McWhorter has slowly dipped her toe into the dating scene, once bringing a plus one to the Mormon Wives cast’s Halloween party in season 3.

“I don’t get out much. I feel like I’m between mom life and then career-wise, I just don’t really do much beyond that,” Miranda said on the “Off the Vine” podcast in March 2026. “I also am like I just don’t really get the sense that my person’s in Utah. … I’m open to it. I would love to find somebody at some point, but I’m not necessarily in a rush to.”

Chase, meanwhile, briefly dated Miranda’s Mormon Wives costar Layla Taylor before her short-lived 2025 romance with his brother, Mason McWhorter. Chase later dated Kate Racker during Mormon Wives season 3 but broke up before season 4. Us later confirmed in March 2026 that Chase kissed Jessi Draper at a party amid her divorce, but “it’s not serious between them.”
