Martin Scorsese‘s daughter Francesca Scorsese shared rare insight into her relationship with mother Helen Morris, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease.
Posting a video of herself and Morris, who married the Departed director in 1999, via TikTok on Tuesday, September 2, Francesca, 25, was seen helping her mom eat a meal at a table.
“Reminder to tell your parents you love them because one day you will have to take care of them the way they once took care of you,” Francesca wrote within the video. She also captioned the post, “Never take health for granted,” before adding hashtags including #parkinsonsawareness and #martinscorsese.
Mayo Clinic describes Parkinson’s disease as a “movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time.”
The video captured Francesca, who is Morris’ only child, tucking her mom’s hair behind her ear, raising a drink up to her mouth and tenderly rubbing Morris’ arm before taking food from a plate in order to feed her mom. (Martin is also the father of Cathy, 59, whom he shares with first wife Laraine Brennan and Domenica, 48, whom he shares with second wife Julia Cameron.)
The clip ends with Francesca sharing a laugh with her mom and somebody else at the table who isn’t filmed before she switches the camera off.
Morris was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease more than 30 years ago, with Martin opening up about his wife’s health battle and praising her resilience during a February 2024 episode of the “This Life of Mine With James Corden” podcast.
“She’s had Parkinson’s disease for about 30 years now,” Martin said at the time. “My complaining is part of my creating and it’s usually self-deprecating. My complaining, I find, is nothing compared to what the suffering that a condition like that does, and so we live with it and it changes how you perceive life and everything around you.”
As Mayo Clinic details, symptoms of Parkinson’s disease may be managed, but there is currently no cure.
Morris has supported her husband at multiple public events over the years. She posed for photos alongside Martin and Francesca on the Golden Globes red carpet in January 2024. The trio were also joined by Cathy and Domenica.
Morris also accompanied her family to the 2023 Cannes Film Festival premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon in France, with both Martin and Francesca holding her arms to aid her stance on the red carpet.
