Martha Stewart is ready to share her memories of being struck by lightning not once but three times in her life.
“The first time I was standing at my sink in a fabulous cottage in Massachusetts. I was washing dishes, and there was a pretty little garden that I had built out front, and there was a well casing or the metal pipe that goes into the ground,” Stewart recalled on the Monday, December 1, episode of QVC’s “50+ & Unfiltered” podcast. “The water was running. I was looking out the window, washing dishes and the lightning came down zig-zagging to the well casing. … All of a sudden, it came out of the faucet in the water and zapped me right in the stomach and threw me on the floor.”
Although the scary event happened nearly 55 years ago, Stewart still had a vivid memory of the freak encounter.
“I got thrown on the floor,” she recalled to QVC program host Shawn Killinger. “It really hurt and I had a mark on my stomach, a little burn.”
Stewart went on to joke that she’s “attracted to lightning” when she shared two other memories of being struck by the weather phenomenon.
“Another time, I was talking on the phone in my Westport house,” she said. “I saw lightning come down the sky light right through the phone into my ear and zap, zap, zap. Another time [was] in the garden.”
Stewart added, “But I’ve also been electrocuted once. That was the worst. That one actually did hurt me and I had to go to the hospital.”

Martha Stewart Talks Plastic Surgery
At 84 years young, Stewart said she has never had plastic surgery.
“I’m trying not to go under the knife. It doesn’t appeal to me,” she explained. I have this theory that if one takes care of one’s self really well and follows strict but not threatening disciplines, one can look good, feel good and be good for a whole life. Does it look like I need plastic surgery? I’m 84 years old and I’m trying so hard to look really good.”
Martha Stewart’s Beauty Secrets
To help look her best, Stewart said she swears by one beauty regimen.
“I have my face waxed, like, once every three months,” she said. “Julien Farel is the best face waxer. She started doing my eyebrows. Then of course you get a bit of the mustache.”
The fashion designer also proudly told Killinger that she has no gray hairs, according to her hairstylist.
Martha Stewart Loves to Cry
Although she may appear to be one tough cookie, Stewart said she finds herself tearing up often.
“What’s going on in the world makes me cry every day,” she explained. “I like to cry once a day. I cry over tragedy that could easily be avoided.”

When asked if she wants to be buried or cremated after she dies, Stewart revealed she has another option in mind.
“I’m going to be composted,” she said before trying to explain what it means. “When one of my horses dies, we dig a giant hole really deep in one of my fields. We have a pet cemetery and the horse is wrapped in a linen sheet and very carefully dropped down into this lovely grave. I want to go there.”
Stewart added, “These coffin things and all that stuff? No way.”
