Lamar Odom raised eyebrows when he walked back the suggestion that his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, saved his life after his near-fatal overdose.
During the Monday, April 6, episode of the Today show, Jenna Bush Hager remarked that Kardashian, 41, “stood by” Odom’s side and “saved” his life, to which he replied, “In some ways. God saved my life. My lord saved my life, honestly.”
The hosts reiterated that Kardashian “stepped in and stayed by your side” after he suffered six heart attacks and 12 strokes in 2015. Odom, 46, was in a coma for three days and later required months of rehabilitation, which Kardashian assisted with after pausing their divorce.
“A lot of us were saying, ‘She rode hard for you,’” Sheinelle Jones told Odom. He acknowledged that Kardashian “took care” of him, adding, “But God took care of me the most. What I came back from is like a medical miracle.”
Odom and Kardashian dated for one month before getting engaged in 2009. They got married later that year, but Kardashian filed for divorce four years later. Kardashian later postponed her court motion amid Odom’s health scare, but they officially got divorced in 2016.
The pair’s relationship was revisited in Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which was released last month.
“The drug buildup was getting worse and worse. There were many times Lamar would go for 12 hours or two days and escape rehab. He would go on a drug bender and no one could find him,” Kardashian said. “I was either looking for him in alleys or looking for him in motels. He would have tinfoil cutouts or spoons and he was freebasing things and leaving things everywhere. I remember needing to go to hotel rooms to clean up after him.”
Kardashian added: “I was such an enabler without knowing I was an enabler. But I just felt such a responsibility to cover this up, hold it together and protect him.”
The duo previously reunited during a February 2025 episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians. When Kardashian decided to reach out to Odom to return some of his prized possessions, he was nearly an hour late to pick them up — and arrived with flowers, cake and champagne.
“I don’t know this person anymore. It is just a mindf***,” she shared at the time. “He is visibly uncomfortable, he is nervous and sweating. I don’t know if he thinks I am going to go off on him. But he just seems scared.”
Odom, who was sweating throughout the conversation, asked Kardashian for a hug. He also called Kardashian his wife, which didn’t sit well with her.
“For him to call me his wife, words are empty,” she explained. “When it was great, it was spectacular. When it was bad, it was horrific.”
While on the Today show, Odom called the interaction “awkward,” adding, “It wasn’t really good for me. But once you’re family, you’re always family, so she ain’t going nowhere.”
Odom went on to say his relationship with Kardashian will never again be romantic. “I will always have love for her, but being in love, no,” he added.
