Joan Rivers has been placed in a medically induced coma after experiencing complications during surgery on Thursday, Aug. 28, a source confirms to Luxury Handbag Shopping. She remains hospitalized at Mount Sinai in New York City.
As previously reported, the comic, 81, was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing during what TMZ said was a throat procedure at a nearby clinic. The site reported that emergency personnel received a 911 call from someone saying there was a person "in either cardiac or respiratory arrest."
Mount Sinai rep Sid Dinsay confirmed to Luxury Handbag Shopping that Rivers had been admitted and was being "attended to" at the hospital. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, was said to be en route to New York to be by her mother's bedside.
"Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support," Dinsay said in a statement. "We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available."
