No closure yet. An initial autopsy was completed on the late Joan Rivers, but it offered up little information.
According to TMZ, the Medical Examiner's Office was unable to determine the "cause and manner of death" after examining the late star's body. The celebrated comedienne passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4 at the age of 81.
Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City last week when she stopped breathing during minor throat surgery. She was later put in a medically induced coma and placed on life support.
Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers, 46, confirmed her mother's death in a statement on Thursday.
"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers," she said at the time. "She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."
Two investigations have reportedly been launched into Rivers' death, with both the New York City Medical Examiner and the New York State Department of Health looking into the matter.
TMZ reports that toxicology testing and interviews with doctors involved will also be conducted.
