Jimmie Allen has been found liable of assault, battery, invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress against an unnamed woman in a sexual assault lawsuit.
According to court documents obtained by Luxury Handbag Shopping on Tuesday, August 19, Judge Aleta A. Trauger ruled that Allen, 40, and his legal team “failed to comply” with multiple orders of the court. The judge subsequently granted the woman’s — known only as Jane Doe —motion for sanctions against the country singer.
“We are pleased that the court entered judgment in her favor and look forward to proving her damages,” Doe’s attorney, Elizabeth Fegan, said in a statement to Billboard on Monday, August 18. “The court’s ruling makes clear that Allen cannot simply ignore the serious consequences of his actions.”
Allen maintained his innocence in a statement to Us, “The recent judgment entered against Mr. Allen was purely procedural, the direct result of his prior counsel’s repeated failures to comply with discovery obligations and court orders. This ruling was not based on the merits of the allegations. Mr. Allen has consistently and unequivocally maintained his innocence, and he firmly denies these accusations.”
“As with earlier accusations brought on the same baseless grounds, this case is equally meritless. The default judgment reflects the shortcomings of prior representation, not any wrongdoing by Mr. Allen,” the statement continued. “It is well-established that a client should not be penalized for the failures of their attorney, and Mr. Allen should not be deprived of his right to a fair defense. We intend to take immediate action to set aside this judgment and to ensure that the matter is decided on facts and evidence, rather than procedural missteps. Mr. Allen looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
Allen and the touring company, Aadyn’s Dad Touring, were sued by Doe back in June 2023. Doe accused Allen of sexually assaulting and secretly videotaping her in a Las Vegas hotel room in July 2022.
According to the lawsuit, Doe claimed that she “willingly joined Allen in the bedroom,” but she “repeatedly told him she did not want him to ejaculate inside her” because she was not on birth control. Doe claimed that Allen allegedly did not follow through with her request and filmed the encounter on his phone, despite her not giving him consent to be recorded.
Jane Doe was not the only person to accuse Allen of sexual assault. Allen’s former manager, who remained anonymous in the documents, also sued the singer in May 2023 and accused him of sexual assault and rape. The manager claimed that Allen “manipulated and used his power” to “sexually harass and abuse her” over the span of 18 months, from 2020 to 2022.
Allen denied the accusations from both women in a July 2023 statement to Us. “For years, I have dealt with racism and harmful threats solely because I am a Black man in the country music industry, and this situation has only amplified that. As the son and brother of rape victims, and the father of daughters, these false claims are extremely hurtful to me and everyone around me.”
The musician continued: “As the legal process runs its course, I look forward to the opportunity to clear my name. I am forever thankful for those who have stood by me and helped me share the truth. My team and I look forward to putting this behind us and getting back to the music.”
In March 2024, Us confirmed that the former manager dropped her lawsuit against Allen.
