Jana Kramer is weighing in on Brooklyn Beckham and wife Nicola Peltz Beckham’s drama with his parents, David and Victoria Beckham.
“I do feel bad for Nicola because it’s like the Meghan Markle situation,” Kramer, 42, said during the Wednesday, January 21, episode of her iHeartRadio “Whine Down” podcast, referring to the backlash toward Markle, 44, when she married Prince Harry in 2018. “When Meghan came in, everyone blamed Meghan for the rift between the royal family.”
Kramer recalled Markle being blamed for “taking Harry away” from his brother, Prince William, when they stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020. The One Tree Hill alum theorized that Markle and Nicola, 31, married into their respective families and called out alleged mistreatment.
“I feel bad because people are kind of comparing the two. … Listen, whether you like Meghan or not, or same with Nicola and thinking that she’s the one that pulled the family apart, sometimes it takes a strong woman to come in, to go, ‘That’s not right,’” she added. “And a mom probably wouldn’t like that strong woman coming in to call out that that behavior is happening.”
Brooklyn, 26, made headlines on Monday, January 19, for a scathing statement in which he called out Victoria, 51, and David, 50, for allegedly “controlling” their family and “disrespecting” Nicola. He also shot down claims that Nicola has been the one controlling him since they tied the knot in 2022. (Luxury Handbag Shopping reached out to Victoria and David for comment.)
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn began in his lengthy Instagram Stories post. “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Brooklyn added that his parents have “controlled narratives in the press” about their family for his “entire life.”

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into. Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of the innocent people, to preserve their own facade,” he claimed. “But I believe the truth always comes out.”
During her podcast on Wednesday, Kramer also said she understood why David and Victoria would try to “control the narrative,” so she sees both sides of the issue.
“When you have the Beckham name, of course, I get that,” she said. “You want to protect the name and you want to make things good in the press. Who wants a bad story about your family in the press?”
Elsewhere in Brooklyn’s statement, he claimed that his parents “have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped.” He claimed that Victoria “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour,” which allegedly forced Nicola to buy a new dress at the last minute, and said that Victoria allegedly “danced inappropriately” on him during what was supposed to be his first dance with Nicola at the wedding.
Brooklyn also claimed that his parents “repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe [him] into signing away the rights to [his] name, which would have affected [him], [his] wife and [their] future children.”
As for David, Brooklyn alleged that his father “rejected” them when they visited for his 50th birthday.
“I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life,” he concluded. “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief. My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
