Zayn Malik is on his longest stretch of singlehood.
The 33-year-old singer confirmed during the Wednesday, February 11, episode of “Call Her Daddy” that he’s not seeing anyone romantically — but that doesn’t mean he’s going through life alone.
“I’ve got a few friends,” Malik said when asked if he’s been texting anyone special. “But, no, I’m not dating anybody.”
For a decade, from ages 17 to 27, Malik experienced relationships in the public eye. He was with ex-fiancée, Little Mix alum Perrie Edwards, from 2012 to 2015. Following their split, he moved on with Gigi Hadid. They were in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2015 to 2021 and share one daughter, Khai, born in September 2020.
“I don’t find being alone scary,” he said. “I’m cool with myself. I like my own thoughts. I like to do things myself. I like to be in my own company. I’m not codependent like that at all.”
Malik meant “no disrespect” to his exes with his following comments.
“It was freeing. I am that type of person who runs on my own clock, answers to myself. It was so freeing to me. I could just do things, make plans, sleep into whatever time I want,” he added. “It’s just been freeing for me and no pressure.”

Malik said “no one ever believed” him when they swiped right.
“It didn’t really work for me,” he said, confirming that his profile photo was a picture from his camera roll and not anything professional. Malik said dating apps are “not really” for him going forward.
How Has Fatherhood Impacted Zayn Malik’s Dating Life?
Malik said he doesn’t know if fatherhood “changed the way I approach dating,” but having Khai means he spends less time worrying about his love life.
“When I’m not working, I’m with Khai,” he said. “So, finding the time to even go on dates and do that kind of stuff is a bit difficult, I’ll be honest with you.”
Malik said he would only introduce a significant other to Khai if it was a “really serious” relationship.
“Maybe plan on marrying her before she’d be introduced to my daughter,” he said. “I just feel like it’s a lot of pressure. Call me old school when I say this, but I wouldn’t want to ever put that kind of pressure on somebody else even.”
The singer explained, “Meet my daughter, have a relationship with her, then [it] don’t work out between me and you. Then you’ve gone somewhere and my daughter’s got this relationship with you and she don’t see you again. Kind of sucks.”
Malik said he “wouldn’t want to put [Khai] through that,” noting he has to be “smarter” about it.

“I’m not looking for a public relationship again,” Malik said, adding it was just because of his past experience.
He made it clear, however, that this decision wasn’t because of any specific person he dated in the past.
“No offense to anybody that I have been in public relationships with before. I’ve just learned from it. It don’t work for me,” Malik said. “I’m quite a private person. I don’t really strive for people’s approval or attention. So the relationship should really be between me and that person.”
