Influencer Jéssica Daugirdas has died three years after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. She was 35.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jessica,” her family wrote in a statement via Instagram on Sunday, January 25, which was translated by People. “God, in His infinite wisdom, has taken our warrior to be with Him, after she fought bravely until the end, with strength, faith and courage.”
The statement continued, “In this time of grief, we unite in prayer so that the Lord may comfort the hearts of all family and friends, and that the peace of Christ may sustain each one.”
The message concluded with Bible verse 2 Timothy 4:7, which reads, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
In the comments section, users shared their condolences.
“A sad day for those who followed the fight of this little girl that I saw growing up. May God comfort the hearts of all who loved this beautiful, brave girl, owner of the most beautiful smile. I had high hopes, but God knows all things. May she rest in peace. 😢,” one wrote.
Another added in a translated comment, “God welcome Jessica, beautiful girl, kind, easy smile and who will certainly be very welcome in this new blessed home! May God comfort and give strength and faith to Jessica’s beautiful family. 🙏🏾🌷🌷🌷.”
One week before news broke of Daugirdas’ death, her sister Gabi shared that the influencer was hospitalized with sepsis. In a post shared via Daugirdas’ Instagram on Wednesday, January 21, Gabi gave an update to the content creator’s followers.
“Jessica is still hospitalized in the semi-intensive care unit due to a serious case of sepsis,” Gabi wrote in a translated statement, per People. “She continues to receive treatment, is being well cared for by the medical team, and is closely monitored by her family. She’s on many medications, which leaves her quite unwell, so she hasn’t been able to use her phone.”
Daugirdas, who had more than 96,000 followers on Instagram, was candid about her battle with colorectal cancer before her death.
In an October 2023 Instagram post, Daugirdas shared that she underwent a “uterine transposition surgery”and began oral therapy as well as 30 sessions of radiotherapy.
“The surgery was quite long, as on that same day a part of the rectum (where the cancer was) was removed, and a portacath (catheter for intravenous chemotherapy) was also placed, along with a temporary ileostomy bag to aid in recovery,” she wrote in a translated Instagram post. “I’ll have the bag for a few months, and these first few days have been quite challenging, but I believe that with time I’ll get used to it and adapt to it. I’m doing well, my recovery is going great, thank God!”
While thanking her care team, Daugirdas shared that she was beginning intravenous chemotherapy for six months.
“There will be 12 sessions every 15 days, and one thing I’m sure of: in the end, everything will be alright! God is taking care of me!! 🙏,” she wrote. “And I almost forgot, thank you to my most worthy husband.@ramaidaugirdas. He’s with me all the time, 24 hours a day, taking care of me. I thank him personally every day, but it’s always good to express my love for you! I love you, thank you so much! ❤️ .”
