Sheriff Confirms Gloves Found in Nancy Guthrie Case Were Traced to Nearby Restaurant Worker

Law enforcement is sharing an update on one of the gloves found near Nancy Guthrie’s home.

“Black gloves found about 2 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home were traced through DNA to a local restaurant employee,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed via X on Wednesday, March 4. “That individual is not part of this investigation. Lab analysis on other DNA evidence remains ongoing.”

The official statement comes after Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed new information to a local news outlet about a pair of gloves.

“There was some talk and discussion that it was police officers out in the field just discarding them, that is so far from the truth,” Nanos told KVOA in an interview published on Monday, March 2. “We knew that at that time, we believed wholeheartedly that those gloves belonged to a restaurant and guess what? The owner of the glove, we found working at a restaurant across the street. It has nothing to do with the case.”

Gloves previously sent to a Florida lab, however, could be different and DNA testing might take a while, Nanos told KVOA in his latest interview.

“It’s a challenge because we know we have DNA, but now we have to deal with that mixture and how we’re going to separate it,” he added.

Nancy was reported missing by her family on February 1 after she did not attend a virtual church service. She was last seen the day before after attending a dinner with her family.

More than a month after she seemingly vanished into thin air, investigators remain confident that they will be able to solve the case.

“I think that investigators are definitely closer,” Nanos told NBC News’ Liz Kreutz during a Today show interview that aired on Tuesday, March 3. “Now it’s time to just go to work.”

Earlier this week, Savannah Guthrie and her family paid an emotional visit to the memorial outside Nancy’s home.

Joined by her sister, Annie Guthrie, and her brother-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, Savannah carried a handful of sunflowers before dropping a personal letter at the memorial.

“Momma, we miss you so much! Our hearts are broken,” the note read, per NewsNation. “We are standing on ash, on scored earth! But Mom, though we are surrounded by so much darkness and uncertainty, our love burns bright. We love you Mommy. We miss you so much. Our best friend!!”

As the investigation continues, Savannah and her family continue to ask for the public’s help in submitting any tips to the FBI.

On February 24, Savannah confirmed the family is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery.

“We know that millions of you have been praying,” Savannah shared in a video via Instagram. “So many people have been praying of every faith and no faith at all, praying for her return, and we feel those prayers. Please keep praying without ceasing. We still believe. We still believe in a miracle.”
