Savannah Guthrie’s family has requested a maintained police presence at Nancy Guthrie’s home as the search for the 84-year-old continues.
“At the request of the Guthrie family, PCSD will maintain a presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence for security,” Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement shared via social media on Sunday, February 8.
The statement continued, “Media & the public are reminded to follow all traffic & private property laws. No trespassing is allowed on the Guthrie property. Violations are subject to enforcement.”
News broke on February 1 that Nancy had been reported missing by a family member, who called 911 after the Guthrie matriarch didn’t attend church. She was last seen on January 31 after having dinner with daughter Annie Guthrie. (Nancy shared daughters Savannah, 54, and Annie and son Camron with husband Charles Guthrie, who died at age 49 after suffering from a heart attack.)
The next day, Savannah was noticeably absent from her spot at the Today show’s desk alongside Craig Melvin, who read a statement with Sheinelle Jones on behalf of Savannah’s family.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” the statement read on February 2. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.”
Nancy’s disappearance has since been investigated as a crime, with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos exclusively telling Luxury Handbag Shopping that it’s believed Nancy was taken while she was asleep.
“Something unusual at that house occurred that made us go, ‘Wow, something’s wrong here. Something doesn’t fit,’” he said on February 2. “We’re gonna pull all the stops and go at all angles. We really do hope it’s a search-and-rescue mission and we find her and she’s safe and sound. But it would be unjust if we didn’t look at what’s in front of us and go, ‘We need to act.’”
As the search for Nancy continues, authorities have been investigating numerous alleged ransom letters, including a note reportedly demanding $6 million in bitcoin by Monday, February 9.
Savannah and her siblings, meanwhile, shared an emotional video on Saturday, February 7, seemingly speaking to their mothers’ alleged kidnappers.
“We received your message and we understand,” Savannah said in the video while holding hands with Annie and Camron. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”
Savannah captioned the post, “Bring her home.”
Authorities have since been seen at Nancy’s Arizona property, seemingly searching a septic tank located behind her house. The sheriff’s department has not confirmed if they found anything nor what they were looking for.
The department also confirmed on Sunday that the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance is “ongoing.”
“Follow-up continues at multiple locations. No suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified,” a statement read. “No scheduled press briefings. If any significant developments occur in the case, a press conference will be called.”
