Diff’rnt Strokes star Todd Bridges has filed for divorce from wife Bettijo B. Hirschi, Luxury Handbag Shopping can exclusively confirm.
Bridges, 60, filed to end his three-year marriage on Tuesday, March 31, according to court documents obtained by Us. He claimed that their “marriage is broken beyond repair” after trying to “resolve [their] problems.”
Bridges and Hirschi, who got married in 2022, announced their separation in January.
“After much prayer and reflection, my spouse and I have made the difficult decision to separate,” Bridges said in a statement. “This was not an easy choice, and it comes with a heavy heart, but also with love and gratitude for the life we shared.”
In his divorce filing, Bridges indicated that he and Hirschi are living separately and do not have any community property. The actor further requested to retain the separate real estate he acquired before marrying Hirschi and doesn’t want either party to be awarded spousal support.
Bridges also acknowledged that he and Hirschi have no debt, as well as signed a “written agreement” detailing the division of property, debt and spousal maintenance.
Bridges was previously married to Dori Smith, with whom he shares two children. Hirschi, for her part, is a mother of four kids from a previous relationship. The now-exes met through a mutual friend in 2022.
“We kind of both had given up on finding something this great, and we were super surprised to be able to have it kind of given to us, and we feel like God had a hand in bringing us together,” Hirschi told People at the time. “We feel so blessed.”
Hirschi and Bridges first crossed paths when their mutual friend wanted to make her a dating app profile.
“Unbeknownst to me, [my friend] decided to make me a profile on some other app,” Hirschi said on The Tamron Hall Show in December 2024. “I think Todd may have been the only single guy she knew or something. She was using him as market research.”
She continued, “She was sending [Todd] pictures of me, saying, ‘What do you think? Do we need to do something different with her hair?’ … She texted me and said, ‘You need to message my friend, he wants to hear from you!’ … She wrote the text too, so I just copy and pasted.”
Once Hirschi met Bridges, they bonded over faith.
“What really struck me about Todd is that we have a very similar idea of who God is and what he’s like and how he interacts with us,” Hirschi told Tamron Hall. “We hear [God] similarly. I feel like God speaks to me directly too. I remember telling my parents, ‘He has a very similar understanding of God that feels very much like the faith that I have.’”
