An ex-girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs publicly endorsed the music mogul and requested his release from prison.
In legal documents filed to Judge Arun Subramanian in the Southern District of New York on Sunday, August 3, and obtained by Luxury Handbag Shopping, a letter penned by Virginia “Gina” Huynh requested that “the Court permit [Diddy’s] release on bond while the case proceeds.”
The letter from Huynh, 33, who dated the music mogul, 55, on and off from 2014 to 2019, also stated, “I am writing because I do not view Mr. Combs as a danger to me or to the community. This is his first criminal case.”

Huynh’s letter followed a Tuesday, July 29, motion submitted by Diddy’s legal team that requested the rapper be released on bail ahead of his October 3 sentencing.
Diddy was arrested in September 2024 and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. He pleaded not guilty but was convicted of the two prostitution counts in July.
Diddy’s lawyers have submitted multiple requests for Diddy’s bail since his arrest, but all were unsuccessful.
Huynh’s letter acknowledged that she originally served as “Victim-3” within the prosecution’s case against Diddy. Per a report published by CNN on Sunday, the previously anonymous Huynh “mysteriously dropped out days before the trial began.”
The outlet also noted that during Diddy’s trial, a former assistant to Diddy testified that he once saw the hip-hop star “throwing apples at Huynh at his home in Miami.” This testimony was referenced by Diddy’s legal team in Sunday’s filing and deemed an “untested accusation.”
Huynh’s letter also candidly detailed her time with Diddy. “Our relationship, like many, was not always perfect, we experienced ups and downs, and mistakes were made but he was willing to acknowledge his mistakes and make better decisions in the future. Over the years that followed he made visible efforts to become a better person and to address the harm he had caused,” she stated.
The letter claimed Diddy “embodied an energy of love, patience and gentleness” by the end of Huynh’s time with him. “To my knowledge, he has not been violent for many years, and he has been committed to being a father first,” she stated.
She added, “I want to assure the Court that if released, I believe Mr. Combs will adhere to all conditions imposed and will not jeopardize his freedom or the well-being of his family. Allowing him to be at home will also support the healing process for all involved. I respectfully ask that you consider these factors when deciding his eligibility for release.”
Prosecutors responded to Diddy’s most recent bail request in a letter filed to Subramanian on Thursday, July 31. The response read in part, “The defendant’s detention pending sentencing is mandatory, there are no exceptional circumstances justifying his release, and even if there were, the defendant cannot demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he is not a danger to the community.”
Subramanian has yet to rule on the rapper’s latest bail request.
As for the charges against Diddy, the musician’s attorney Marc Agnifilo said in a statement at the time, “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
Since his arrest, Diddy has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
