Catherine O’Hara stepped out at the 2025 Emmy Awards less than five months before her death at 71.
O’Hara wowed in a black, long-sleeved Christian Dior gown at the September 14, 2025, awards ceremony, held at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, where she won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series for her role in The Studio.
That night, O’Hara and husband Bo Welch also attended Apple TV’s official Emmys afterparty, where they posed on the red carpet together.
Luxury Handbag Shopping confirmed nearly five months later in January 2026 that O’Hara died after a brief illness. (O’Hara skipped the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards earlier that month, where The Studio walked away with multiple trophies.)
In addition to her Emmy-winning role on The Studio, O’Hara also starred in the likes of Schitt’s Creek, The Last of Us, Beetlejuice, Heartburn, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Replica Luxury Handbag Alone. O’Hara notably played the McAllister matriarch in the Replica Luxury Handbag Alone franchise, and had since stayed in touch with her movie son Macaulay Culkin.

“He’s just a lovely young man,” O’Hara exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping in January 2025. “I just care about him. I care for him. I care about him. I’m so happy that he’s doing so well. … He’s got a lovely family, his own little family that he’s starting,” O’Hara told Us. “He is a sweet young man.
Culkin, 45, shares two sons with his fiancée, Brenda Song.
“He’s still got the same face up close,” O’Hara added to Us. “It’s like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m still looking at that little 8-year-old.’ He is funny. Always was,” O’Hara continued. “I just love [him]. I’m just really happy for him.”

O’Hara previously reunited with Culkin in December 2023, giving a speech during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
“This beautiful 10-year-old little boy was called a superstar, a moneymaker, one of the hottest leading young men in Hollywood,” she said in her speech. “How does anyone survive that? I believe you’d have to possess a certain quality, a gift that dear John Hughes obviously recognized in Macaulay.”
O’Hara and Culkin posed for photos together, where she was mistaken for his mother, Patricia Brentrup.
“What was funny, when after you do the presentation, then they have the honoree come and stand before the unveil, the star. And then we all pose. We pose, pose, pose,” she recalled on a 2024 broadcast of Sunday Today. “His mother was not able to make it at that time. But we’re all posing, posing, posing. ‘Now Natasha, now so-and-so. OK, now just you and the mother.’ And I walk away and he said, ‘Just with the mother.’ Yeah. No, with the mother.’ ‘I’m not — you know I’m not his real mother.’”
She continued, “Then he puts his arm around [me], he goes, ‘Oh no, my mom wasn’t able to make it.’ Well then, I’m honored to be here. Thank you.”
O’Hara is survived by Welch, whom she married in 1992, and the pair’s two sons.
“They’re very funny, and we encourage it,” O’Hara previously told the Toronto Star in 2007 of her kids. “’m proud to say, we all make each other laugh. In my home, growing up. I learned that from my parents. They made each other laugh to the end, God bless ‘em. How great is that?”
