Cardi B has learned to take her business ventures into her own hands.

“I feel like I’ve been burned,” Cardi, 33, said on the Tuesday, March 31, episode of Emma Grede’s “Aspire” podcast. “Even when I haven’t been burned, you never know when you’re getting burned. If you’re not seeing the numbers every single day, you’re going to get burned.”

According to Cardi, there was a period where she didn’t receive daily accounting updates about her business holdings or income.

“I need to see the numbers everyday. You got to see those numbers,” the rapper stressed. “It has to be hands-on. I feel like I made so many people rich, and then they tell other people that they did so good, but when we get on the these type of number calls, they be like, ‘Well, we didn’t meet this, this and that.’ And it’s like, ‘Yeah, no, you’re lying.’”

To avoid false reports, Cardi has also since requested to receive all insights about her social media posts.

“I asked all my social media platforms, ‘Hey, give me the insights,’” she said. “It’s, like, yeah don’t play.”

Cardi launched her first business, a haircare line called Grow Good, in January, two years after first conceptualizing the concept.

“I’m tired of waiting on managers, I’m tired of waiting on this,” she recalled. “It’s, like, there’s nobody else that is going to be as passionate for what I want like [me and my friend Patience]. It’s, like, ‘We got to put pep in our step. You go find these people that going to help us do our brands and we’re going to ride this s*** to the end, and that’s exactly what she did.”

According to Cardi, Grow Good no longer feels like a corporate “partnership” but more of a friendship.

“There’s so many people that want to invest and want to get in deals with us but it’s, like, ‘Yeah but are you passionate? Are you understanding how I want these things done?’” Cardi said. “They are [and] have fulfilled everything that I want. It’s time to put everything we work for in the engine.”

Given the times that Cardi has allegedly been “burned” by past business associates, she knows exactly who to work with moving forward.

“All this time that I’ve been Cardi B, I’ve been burned so much that now we do know what we’re looking [for] in partners,” she said. “I want people [who] understand good products, and I want people that understand how important it is [to have] marketing. … We have worked so hard for these products to be amazing.”

Cardi further stressed that she didn’t launch her businesses as a way to solely expand her net worth.

“I’m not really right now doing it for just the money. I really want that power. I want that respect. It’s very very important to me,” she said. “ I want to show y’all and I feel like I could do it.”
