Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) made her debut on the stunning cover of Vanity Fair on Monday, June 1. An accompanying behind-the-scenes video shows the former Olympian prepping for the big moment in a shoot with legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz.
"I was probably at the [Olympic] games because I was running away from a lot of things," the decathlon gold medalist says in the clip. "Very, very proud of those accomplishment, I don't want to diminish that accomplishment."
For Caitlyn, 65, the shoot was about "my life and who I am as a person."
"It's not about the fanfare," she says in the video, which features her in various looks including a tiny bodysuit, a form-fitting black dress, a silky satin robe, a glam off-the-shoulder evening gown, and an eye-catching sequined floor-length number.
"It's not about people cheering in the stadium," Caitlyn continues. "It's not about going down the street and everybody giving you a, 'Thatta boy, Bruce!' pat on the back."
B-roll footage shows hair and makeup artists primping Caitlyn's voluminous brunette tresses as she converses with Leibovitz about the shoot.
The big reveal was accompanied by Caitlyn's interview with Friday Night Lights author and journalist Buzz Bissinger.
"Bruce always had to tell a lie," Caitlyn recalls of her previous persona. "He was always living that lie. Every day he always had a secret from morning 'til night… Caitlyn doesn't have any secrets. Soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I'm free."
