Britney Spears has checked into rehab after she was arrested for driving under the influence.
A rep for Spears, 44, confirmed to Luxury Handbag Shopping on Sunday, April 12, that the iconic pop singer voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility.
The Celebrity Intelligence newsletter was the first to report the news, which comes after Us confirmed on March 27 that Spears has been sober since the incident and attending AA meetings.
Us confirmed on March 5 that Spears was arrested for a DUI the night before while driving near her home in California. She was booked at 3:02 a.m. on Thursday morning and released within three hours.
According to 911 audio obtained by Us, Spears’ car had been driving “in and out of lanes” and speeding. The call operator also noted that the vehicle was “erratic[ly] braking, swerving and driving with no tail light.”
The pop star is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” a spokesperson for Spears told Us in a statement after her release. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The rep continued, “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”
Spears’ rep also revealed the singer’s two sons would be “spending more time with” her following her arrest.
Spears shares sons Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline, who had all moved to Hawaii in 2023 amid their estrangement from the “Circus” singer. Spears reconciled with her kids last year.

“The boys are maturing and they want their mom in their lives, and Britney is really happy about that,” a source exclusively told Us in September 2025. “She’s so grateful to have them in her life. She feels whole again.”
A second insider told Us in December 2025 that Spears spent Christmas with Jayden, which “deepened their connection.” Preston, meanwhile, celebrated the holiday with Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn Spears’ family.
“Britney was really hurt that Preston didn’t spend Christmas with her and Jayden, but he chose not to,” the second source said. “She tried to convince him, but he wasn’t ready to meet her halfway.”
Britney has navigated a series of public ups and downs since the early 2000s, when she was placed under a conservatorship run by her father, Jamie Spears. The guardianship was terminated in November 2021 after 13 years.
