Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner continue to put on a united front as they reunited at an event for their kids.
Affleck and Garner, both 52, were seen arriving separately for a school play in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday, January 26, according to photos obtained by Daily Mail. Garner kept it casual with a jacket over a sweater and jeans while Affleck was photographed when he stepped out for a smoke amid the event.
The former couple, who share kids Violet, 19, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, have remained friendly especially in recent months after Affleck’s high-profile divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
“She’s been helpful to J.Lo, and they’ve been relating to each other,” an insider exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping in July 2024 about how Garner has supported Lopez, 55, as well. “Jennifer has been a surprising person for J.Lo to talk to.”
Affleck and Garner initially met on the set of Pearl Harbor in 2001 and reconnected three years later. They exchanged vows in June 2005 before expanding their family.
Following a decade of marriage, Affleck and Garner announced their decision to part ways. “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” they said in a joint statement in 2015. “We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to coparenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding.”
A source later told Us that coparenting has always been “a work in progress” for Affleck and Garner.
“Things come up between them, but they are committed to doing the best they can for the kids,” the insider revealed in March 2020, two years after their divorce was finalized. “They stay on top of things and have a lot of meetings and check-ins. They want to be the best parents they can for the kids. If they have differences, they keep it to themselves and don’t let it have an impact. They always put on happy faces for the kids and put their well-being first.”
Affleck and Garner have both publicly moved on after calling it quits. Garner has been dating John Miller off and on since 2018 while Affleck rekindled his romance with Lopez. The director, who was previously engaged to Lopez from 2002 to 2004, reunited with the singer in early 2021.
Us confirmed in August 2024 that Lopez filed for divorce, listing their date of separation as April. News of the pair’s split came after months of speculation about Affleck and Lopez’s relationship, and their divorce was finalized earlier this month.
“She was very in love with Ben, but love isn’t enough sometimes,” another source told Us about Lopez in the wake of the divorce settlement. “Things worked out for the best and how they were supposed to.”
Lopez, who shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, is “having fun” while she’s “working on some big movie projects and enjoying showing how amazing she looks.” She is also “enjoying being single and is feeling herself.”
