Christina Applegate has found raising daughter Sadie Grace with her husband, Martyn LeNoble, to be a moving experience through the years.

Luxury Handbag Shopping confirmed on February 1, 2011, that Applegate and her LeNoble had welcomed their first child. Late that month, the Dead to Me star opened up about childbirth during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"I dropped my gown, which I don't do. This part of my body is very private to me. That’s a real private place. A place that I don't have a good relationship with, let's say," she said. "But at that moment of pulling [Sadie] out and I just tore that thing off. There's a room full of people that I don't know. Nurses and doctors. And she and I just laid there. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me.”

Applegate — who battled breast cancer in 2008 and revealed her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021 — has leaned on LeNoble and Sadie throughout her health challenges. Amid Applegate's MS battle, Sadie has been her mom’s date to special events such as the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards and her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

“The most important person in this world is my daughter,” Applegate gushed in November 2022 as she received her star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. “You are so much more than even you know. You are so beautiful and kind and loving and smart and interesting.”

Weeks after giving birth to Sadie, the California native opened up to Us about her baby bliss.

 “Just being in love,” Applegate told Us about her favorite part of being a new mom. “No offense to anyone that I know and love in my life, but you just really don't know love until you have that baby. You don't know. It's a whole 'nother ball game.”

“She loves it when I imitate a monkey,” the Anchorman actress quipped of her then-toddler in a cover story for Scholastic Parent & Child in 2012. “And you try to use it again and again, but then by the third time she doesn't find it funny anymore. Sadie is a much harder critic than the public. … Because she sees her daddy with guitars playing music for her, and then she sees mommy being ridiculous at home. She's sort of an amalgamation of the two of us. But then she has her own things, too. She's very independent.”

Despite loving life with Sadie, both Applegate and LeNoble were wary about the prospect of welcoming baby No. 2.

 “I’m 41 years old and I don’t know if I could do the whole, like, not sleeping thing again,” she confessed to Access Hollywood. “If I was 35, then maybe I’d have the energy but there’s just, like, when I get up it hurts. Wait a couple of years and I’d be almost pushing 45. With, like, a newborn? I don’t know.”

She added: “Some people can do it and I say, ‘Hats off to you.’ But that’s just how I feel right now. Sadie’s a very big ball of energy. I think we both want to make another Sadie. We watch this little person and she’s so perfect and she enhances our life so much that you go, God — how could we not to produce more of these? But he’s 44. We’re both kind of like, eh, we’re a little old and we don’t know.”

The Vacation star exclusively revealed her favorite family getaways with Sadie, then 4, and LeNoble.

“My favorite vacation is where I can just lie down and have people bring me things,” she joked to Us. “My husband always says, 'Let's rent a house!' I'm like, 'That requires cooking our food and cleaning dishes, man! Let's get a villa with a staff and just lie there.' He says, 'We'll be poor really soon.’ There's my daughter, my stepdaughter [and] her boyfriend, my husband and myself. And so that I can lie down, I do bring a nanny. Because I need to lie down!”

“Critics choice awards nails. It says Jen and Judy [for Linda Cardellini and my Dead to Me characters]. And the other pic is of the best date ever … my rad daughter,” the Samantha Who? alum tweeted, sharing behind-the-scenes snaps from the awards show. “Just a fun fact, the suit my kid is wearing was Scott Weiland’s suit from one of his solo album covers. Scott gave my husband, Martyn, that suit long ago in the glorious 90’s. Also, we were quite a pair last night.”


Weiland, who died in 2015 after an accidental overdose at the age of 48, played music with the Stone Temple Pilots around the same time that LeNoble's Porno for Pyros initially found success.

Sadie was a guest on her mom’s podcast and opened up about her battle with POTS, also known as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. While the mother-daughter duo discussed Sadie’s health struggles, Applegate admitted she felt “very guilty” because she “didn’t really understand what was happening.”

“I hate it for you my darling. I really hate it for you,” Applegate said. “I’m sad. But I love you and I know you’re going to be OK. And I’m here for you and I believe you. And thank you for bringing this to light and awareness.”
