Roseanne Barr is opening up about placing her first child up for adoption.

While speaking to Bunnie XO on the Monday, June 23, episode of her “Dumb Blonde” podcast, Barr reflected on getting pregnant when she was just 17 years old.

Barr, now 72, kept her daughter for a week and then “gave her up to Jewish Family and Children Services there in Denver,” she told Bunnie.

Barr added that when she became famous, she intentionally kept her name the same so that it would be easier for the family to find her — something that happened 17 and a half years later.

“I was on TV, and that’s how she found me. She always knew that her mother was famous in Hollywood,” Barr said, joking that her biological daughter, Brandi, thought her mom was Goldie Hawn because she knew she was Jewish.

Barr also claimed that her boyfriend at the time attempted to sell the story to the press, something she was able to shut down. The publication, however, allegedly called Brandi and asked if she wanted to meet her biological mom.

“And she’s all excited thinking it’s going to be Goldie Hawn,” Barr explained. “And they go, ‘It’s Roseanne Barr.’ And her words are so hilarious. She goes, ‘Christ, I didn’t even know she was a Jew,’ which is so hilarious.”

Barr, Brandi and Brandi’s mother all planned to meet at a hotel, but things took a bit of a turn. They had exchanged photos, and when Barr stopped by a nearby coffee shop on the way to the hotel, she realized Brandi was also there. “She got up from the table, and we ran,” Barr recalled. “We both ran, and we just grabbed onto each other, and we both started bawling, and the security pushed us into the elevator, but it was like a magnet, you know, and her mom came up, and … it was a miracle.”

Her daughter is 53 now and “has a son and a lovely husband,” Barr said, gushing that Brandi is “a wonderful woman.”

Barr also spoke about Brandi’s journey in her documentary Roseanne Barr Is America. The actress explained that she chose to place Brandi for adoption because her own mother “didn’t want the neighbors to be ashamed of her.”

Barr also shares two daughters, Jessica, 50, and Jennifer, 49, and son Jake, 47, with first husband Bill Pentland. She and ex-husband Ben Thomas share son Buck, 30.
