Kelsey Grammer is sharing a rare glimpse into his life as a father of eight at the age of 70.
Less than two weeks after confirming his wife, Kayte Walsh, gave birth to their fourth child together, the actor said life is “awesome and fantastic.”
“The family’s ecstatic,” Grammer shared with People in an interview published Wednesday, November 5. “We’re all really having a great time. It’s really lovely.”
During the October 27 episode of iHeartRadio’s “Pod Meets World” podcast, Grammer casually confirmed he and Walsh, 46, “just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids.”
The couple already share kids Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8. Kelsey is also dad to daughters Spencer, 41, Greer, 33, and Mason, 23, and son Jude, 20, from previous relationships.
“We are closer than we’ve ever been as a family,” the actor said in his latest interview, “and I’m proud of that.”
With the holidays quickly approaching, The Christmas Ring actor is already dreaming about making more memories with his family.
In addition to doing a Christmas roast dinner every year — which typically includes prime rib, turkey, a chicken, Yorkshire puddings and more — Kelsey makes sure a holiday tree is always in the home right after Thanksgiving.
“We usually have someone who works for us go out and get the tree. There’s a thing in California I call celebrity pricing,” he said. “I’ll find an eight- or nine-foot tree I like, and a guy will say, ‘Mr. Grammer, for you that’s going to be $1,700.’ For my friend, they’ll say, ‘About $600.’ So, I stopped going.”
Before welcoming his eighth child, Kelsey offered a glimpse into what life is really like raising children with a large age range.
“It’s been interesting. The age range is from [41] to 8. That’s pretty great,” he told Us in May. “The 12-, 10- and 8-year-olds are the ones I spend every day with, and it’s fantastic. [My kids] are amazing, and they make my life worthwhile.”
Many of Kelsey’s kids have followed in their dad’s footsteps. Spencer has appeared in Rick and Morty, Tell Me a Story, Greek, As the World Turns, Sweetie Pie and more projects.
As for Greer, her acting credits include Awkward, Deadly Illusions, The Middle and a 2004 episode of the Paramount+ reboot of Frasier.
“I did always want to act. As a little kid, I was a different Disney princess every day,” Greer told YourTango in 2014 when recalling what she described as a normal childhood. “I’d run around the house in my costume and fully embody the character I was playing. My Fair Lady was my favorite movie.”
The actress made it clear that her parents “didn’t encourage or discourage” her from acting.
Instead, “they encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do.”
