Jodie Turner-Smith turned the set of Taylor Swift’s “Opalite” music video into a full-fledged family affair.
“Continue to be in awe of you @taylorswift 💕🫂,” Turner-Smith, 39, wrote via Instagram on Friday, February 6. “Your creativity, your intelligence, your wit, your generosity, your grace. I had so much fun doing this, and the entire time I was thinking ‘Taylor directing me again when??!’”
Turner-Smith played an ‘90s-era aerobics star in Swift’s latest music video, which premiered earlier on Friday. Alongside her caption, Turner-Smith shared 13 images from the set, including one of her 5-year-old daughter meeting Swift, 36, backstage.
In the sweet pic, Swift wore a black turtleneck with a coordinating pleated miniskirt as she bent down to give the actress’ daughter a hug.
Swift wrote and directed her “Opalite” treatment costarring Turner-Smith, Domhnall Gleeson, Cillian Murphy, Greta Lee and Lewis Capaldi after meeting them on The Graham Norton Show in October 2025.
“The idea for the ‘Opalite’ music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl,” Swift wrote via Instagram on Friday. “I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with. Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, @JodieSmith, and @LewisCapaldi. All people whose work I’ve admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos.”
She continued, “In that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*. And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the ‘Opalite’ video, where he was playing the starring role. I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton Show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory.”
As for Turner-Smith, she immediately agreed to appear in the music video.
“[I] had an actual blast doing this for the incredible @taylorswift,” the Queen and Slim star wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday. “Also shoutout to my daughter for managing to not spill the beans.”
Turner-Smith and ex-husband Joshua Jackson welcomed their daughter in April 2020, three years before they called it quits.
“It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone, because you’re used to being with your child all the time,” Turner-Smith told Glamour UK in 2024 about coparenting with Jackson, 47. “Nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out.”
She continued, “Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent.”
Turner-Smith and Jackson were married from 2019 to 2023, finalizing the proceedings two years later in 2025.
“[Turner-Smith and Jackson] are in the process of negotiating a custody judgment,” Turner-Smith’s lawyer wrote in a memo shared in October 2025. “The parties will return to the [a private judge they hired] to resolve any impasses in the proposed custody judgment.”
