Hilary Duff’s 13-year-old son, Luca, is growing up before her very eyes.
“ILYSM,” Duff, 38, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, January 15, using the abbreviation for “I love you so much.”
In Duff’s upload, she posed for a mirror selfie with Luca, who has recently grown taller than the pop star. Duff rocked a V-neck red sweater with gray trousers and a black Chanel purse, while her son opted for a preppy Ralph Lauren polo and black pants.
Duff welcomed Luca in 2012 with then-husband Mike Comrie. The “Mature” singer and Comrie, 45, divorced four years later in 2016 and have since remained amicable.
“[Luca and I] talk about [Mike] often,” Duff told Grazia in May 2022. “I like to tell him about how I met his father, about the good times we spent together, about the greatest joy when I found out I was pregnant and how his father and I coped with pregnancy. It is a very sweet thing.”
Duff has also maintained a special bond with Luca as he entered his teenage years.
“Wow, is time ever a thief. I thought 10 years of being a mom felt wild, yet here I am at my son’s 13th birthday,” she wrote via Instagram in March 2025. “I can’t go anywhere without people telling me what a nice kid Luca is. Sweet, heart facing forward with the coolest point of view. He can talk anyone under the table about soccer, players dating back to the 70’s [and] specific games that defined history.”
She continued, “He’s an amazing creative drawer, a beautiful writer (hopefully more of that in the future) and I *think* taking a new interest in history. It’s been so fun listening as he talks about the world’s history — since I didn’t have a ‘normal’ schooling experience. There are definitely some gaps and it’s sure cool to have the tables turned and see how much more he knows more than me.”
Duff further marveled how “it’s so cool” to watch Luca grow in confidence and “sure-footedness” through the years.
“I love you more than the moon and as far as all the stars in the sky,” she gushed at the time. “Hanging with you is the best. Getting a text from you [is] the best, talking late and snacking in the kitchen is the best [and] driving you is the best. … Your humor is the best, you being fully YOU is the best. Being your mom is the BEST.”
Duff later welcomed three daughters — Banks, 7, Mae, 4, and Townes, 20 months — with husband Matthew Koma.
Duff, who has been married to Koma, 38, since 2019, subsequently started a celebrity mother’s group to share her parenting lessons and gather more advice.
“Hilary is the coolest and she is a super-mom,” Mandy Moore told InStyle in a May 2022 profile. “We had babies at the same time and she, being the super-mom that she is, formed a cool mom club.”
The crew also included Meghan Trainor and Ashley Tisdale, the latter who claimed earlier in January that she left the group because it felt “toxic.”
“They all feel blindsided and hurt by Ashley speaking out,” a source exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping of Duff and Moore’s circle. “From their perspective, they believed the group was supportive and coming from a good place, and they never thought there was any bad intent behind how things played out.”
