Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Gigi Robinson got candid about her breast reduction surgery.

Robinson opened up about the surgery that helped her health while chatting with the New York Post on Monday, May 27, explaining that she went down from a 34E to a 34B.

“It was never a cosmetic thing for me. My goal was not to get a breast reduction to be smaller or to lose weight,” she explained. “My goal was rooted in my desire to overcome chronic illness.”

At around 10 or 11 years old, Robinson was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare inherited illness that “affects the tissue that supports and protects other tissues and organs in the body,” per the Mayo Clinic. Some of the symptoms include “too loose” joints and “stretchy” skin. Robinson told The New York Post that she experienced “chronic migraines, fatigue and brain fog” growing up.

“I could not exercise without a lot of pressure in my neck and my shoulders and my back,” she continued. “By the time I got to college, I really realized how much of an impact living with a chronic illness had on me.”

Eventually, Robinson’s doctors recommended she undergo a breast reduction.

“You have to think about the limitations that people living with a larger chest and/or a chronic illness may be suffering,” she told the outlet. “Losing weight is not necessarily a great option. It also perpetuates the idea that you’re getting a breast reduction because you wanna be smaller.”

After healing from her surgery, Robinson said that her only regret was not getting the procedure “sooner.”
