
Dermot Mulroney
Dermot Mulroney is an American actor best known for his roles in My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Date and Young Guns. Mulroney was raised in Alexandria, Virginia, alongside his four siblings. Throughout his childhood, he was an accomplished cellist and later became active in community theater. He went on to study theater at Northwestern University, graduating in 1985.
Mulroney began acting soon after college, making early appearances in TV movies and landing breakout roles in projects like Longtime Companion (1989) and Where the Day Takes You (1992). His rise continued through the ’90s with parts in Point of No Return (1993) and The Thing Called Love (1993), establishing him as a consistent leading man in both drama and romantic comedy.
His notable work spans both film and television, including his roles in My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), About Schmidt (2002), The Wedding Date (2005), August: Osage County (2013) and Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015). On television he has appeared in series such as Shameless, New Girl, Crisis and The Righteous Gemstones. He has also contributed to film scores as a cellist with the Hollywood Quartet and boasts credits on movies like Dante’s Inferno (2007) and Shooting Stars (2023).
In 2025, he joined the cast of Netflix’s The Hunting Wives as Jed Banks.
Mulroney married actress Catherine Keener in 1990. They share one son, Clyde (born in 1999). After their divorce in 2007, he married Prima Apollinaare in 2008. They have two daughters, Mabel (born in 2008) and Sally (born in 2009). The pair announced their split in 2025.
