Bobby Brown

Bobby Brown is a Grammy-winning R&B singer, songwriter and performer best known for his solo career and as a member of New Edition. Brown spent his childhood in Boston, where he grew up in the Orchard Park housing projects. He developed an interest in music at a young age, participating in his church’s choir before forming the group The Bricks with Michael Bivins and Ricky Bell.

With the addition of Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant, the band changed their name to New Edition in the early 1980s and achieved success with hits like “Candy Girl” and “Cool It Now.” After leaving the group in 1985, Brown launched a solo career that took off with his sophomore album, Don’t Be Cruel (1988), which included chart-topping singles like “My Prerogative” and “Every Little Step.” The album established him as a leading figure in the new jack swing movement.

Throughout his career, Brown has earned a number of accolades, including a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and went on to release multiple albums, including Bobby (1992), Forever (1997) and The Masterpiece (2012). He also appeared in films and television projects such as Ghostbusters II (1989) and Being Bobby Brown (2005), further cementing his place in pop culture.

Brown was married to Whitney Houston from 1992 to 2007, and they welcomed one daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown (1993 to 2015). He shares son Landon (born in 1986) with ex-girlfriend Melika Williams Payne and daughter La’Princia (born in 1989) and son Bobby Jr. (1991 to 2020) with ex-girlfriend Kim Ward. He wed Alicia Etheredge in 2012, and the couple share three children: son Cassius (born in 2009) and daughters Bodhi (born in 2015) and Hendrix (born in 2016).
