Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone is an American actress and activist best known for her breakout role as Cher Horowitz in Clueless. Silverstone was born and raised in San Francisco, California, where she began modeling and acting at a young age. She attended San Mateo High School and chose to pursue a career in acting shortly after graduating.

Silverstone’s early career included appearances in television roles and music videos, most notably for Aerosmith’s “Cryin’,” which helped boost her profile. Her major breakthrough came in 1995 with her role in Clueless, which established her as a teen star and led to a multimillion-dollar deal with Columbia Pictures. She went on to star in films including Batman & Robin (1997), Excess Baggage (1997) and Blast from the Past (1999) throughout the ’90s.

Silverstone later transitioned to television and stage work, appearing in projects like Miss Match and American Woman, with the former earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series. In addition to acting, she is known for her activism, particularly in animal rights and veganism, and has authored books on plant-based living, including her 2009 cookbook, The Kind Diet.

Silverstone married musician Christopher Jarecki in 2005. The couple welcomed a son, Bear (born in 2011), before announcing their separation in 2018.
